In order to leave P, switch on ignition, Before starting-off, check:
depress footbrake and press button on zTyre pressure and condition –
selector lever. see pages 204, 211, 299.
To engage P or R, press button on selector zEngine oil level and fluid levels in engine
lever. compartment – see pages 271 to 279.
P Only with vehicle stationary, apply zAll windows, mirrors, exterior lighting
handbrake beforehand. and number plates are free from dirt,
R Only if vehicle is stationary. snow and ice and are operational.
6 Automatic transmission 3 – zNo objects are placed in front of the rear
see page 176. window, on the instrument panel or in
the area in which the airbags inflate.
zSeats, seat belts and mirrors are
correctly adjusted. To start engine:
zBrake operation. Operate clutch and brake pedals,
automatic transmission3
in P or N,
Easytronic 3: Depressbrake,
do not accelerate,
Petrol engines: Turn key to 3;
Diesel engines: Turn key to 2,
when control indicator !
1)
goesout , turn key to 3;
release key once engine
is running
To restart or switch off the engine, turn key
back to 0.
To switch on the ignition, only turn the key
to 2.

1) Preheating system switches on only if outside
temperature is low.
