1978 Volvo 242 244 245 The steering wheel lock might be under tension when the car is parked. Turn the steering wheel slightly to free the ignition key. A buzzer will sound if the ignition key is in the ignition lock and the front door on the driver's side is open. The buzzer goes off when the front door is closed. Parking brake (hand brake) The lever is situated between the front seats. The brake is applied to the rear wheels. In order to obtain the best possible performance of the parking brake, the brake linings should be broken in.
